Understanding Horses

Thank you for visiting the website for Horse Sense. We are a professional, friendly, family orientated business providing training and instruction for English and Western disciplines, groundwork, colt starting and all horse-related skills and activities. We focus on a holistic education encouraging students to learn all about horses, not just how to ride. We believe that this will enable people to have a greater understanding of horses, why they do what they do, and therefore will improve their relationship with their horse, whether under saddle or on the ground.

We are located in Falcon, Colorado. We are a 35 acre facility. Our facilities include a post and rail fenced 220 ' x 100' arena with well maintained sand footing, a 100' x 120' arena within a smooth wire fenced paddock, with well maintained sand footing, and 2 x 60' panel round pens, also with well maintained sand footing. Additionally, we have a permanent trail course including trail bridges of various sizes, mail box, tarp, wagon wheel, logs, and other obstacles. We have a full course of show jumps available for use, and during the summer months, have a selection of cross country jumps located in the east pasture.

Sue Boucher-Borders - British Horse Society Certified and Association of British Riding Schools Certified Instructor

I started riding lessons at the local riding school in Swindon, Wiltshire, England, in April of 1973. Under the guidance of British Horse Society Instructors I took regular lessons for many years, learning not only how to ride, but how to care for and manage horses.  In 1976 I started competing in local shows and gymkhana's, and progressed to show (stadium) jumping, cross country, and dressage on my own and clients horses thereafter. I began training horses at the age of 14 and started teaching students to ride at the age of 18. I have since studied classical dressage and natural horsemanship to broaden my knowledge of horse training and to develop techniques which can be used on different horses, depending on their requirements.  My aim is to teach people about horses, how they think, how they move, why they do what they do, how they feel, what they're thinking and therefore to help horses be better understood by the people who own, ride and care for them.
